Here at Portraits Today Studios, we offer something really exciting – our Photography Classes! Whether your just picking up your first DSLR, mastering the camera, or anything in between, we have a class for you!
Our first class, the Basics Camera Class, is geared for people just learning their first DSLR or advanced point and shoot. Ever wondered why your pictures are too dark/light/blurry/etc? We can help. This class starts from the beginning and works through the basics you need to start taking great pictures. We’ll take a look at basic shutter speed, flash/no flash, ISO, and aperture. This class is limited to 10 participants so that we have a little extra wiggle room for personal questions.
Already know the basics? You’re probably ready for the Mastering Your Camera Class. This class is split into two sessions, Thursday evening for 2 hours, and Saturday for 2 1/2 hours. Thursday evening, we’ll spend time in the studio going over the more advanced functions of your DSLR. Topics included are using your camera’s different light metering settings, shutter speed, and the effect your f-stop has on pictures. We’ll also discuss image capture settings such as the differences and advantages/trade-offs of RAW and JPEG. Since this class is limited to 8 participants, we’re able to really spend the time with each individual and meeting their specific needs. On Saturday, we’ll meetup at a local park and put our skills to use. This gives you a chance to test out what you’ve learned, and ask questions as needed.
Finally, we offer two specialty classes: KC After Dark and Sports Photography. For both of these, a knowledge of the basics is recommended.
KC After Dark is exactly what it sounds like – great night time pictures. We’ll start before dark and talk about the basics of great night time photography, and then we’ll head out and put it to use. A DSLR is a must for this class, as even the best point and shoots don’t allow you to adjust the settings properly. We also recommend a tripod, since we’ll be using some long exposures.
Our second option gives you the tools you need to get great sports photos. Whether you want good pictures of Johnny’s little league team, or aspire to photograph for the NFL, you have to start somewhere! Chris makes an excellent coach for this class, as he spent many years photographing professional and minor league athletes in the DC area. He’ll focus on the basics of getting great action shots, and some specialty shots that will have all your friends in awe.
